The U.S. first billionaire said once in an interview:

Yes, I tithe, and I would like to tell you how it all came about. I had to begin work as a small boy to help support my mother. My first wages amounted to $1.50 per week. The first week after I went to work, I took the $1.50 home to my mother and she held the money in her lap and explained to me that she would be happy if I would give a tenth of it to the Lord.
I did, and from that week until this day I have tithed every dollar God has entrusted to me. And I want to say, if I had not tithed the first dollar I made I would not have tithed the first million dollars I made. Tell your readers to train the children to tithe, and they will grow up to be faithful stewards of the Lord.
— John D. Rockefeller, Sr.

Tan, P. L. (1996). Encyclopedia of 7700 Illustrations: Signs of the Times. Garland, TX

He began tithing even as a child, and became one of the richest men in the history of mankind through the business of petroleum. He came from a poor family and an absent father. But his mother taught him to put down a root of faithfulness, which still today brings prosperity to the Rockefeller family (his fortune when he died in 1937 was US$ 760 billion, adjusted to today’s rates. This is more than 12 times the wealth of Bill Gates).

Being faithful upon little is a test of character. Before giving much to someone, you test that person’s character by observing how he or she behaves when in charge of little.

Just as God gave oil to Rockefeller, He wants to give sources of wealth to His children. There are many treasures yet to be discovered, millionaire ideas, opportunities… Of course, God is hoping to find faithful and diligent servants whom He can give them to, before they fall into other hands…

  1. This can serve as an eye opener for us. This is because many people think that their wealth depends on their trust in God however do they ever think how trustworthy they. God doesn't change we do and that's where the problem lays

  2. This is strong, before i used to see tithe as a minus to my money because i though 'oh no now i cant buy this or that' but then i started to change the way i though because i didn't see no change and then my tithe started to become a plus rather than a minus God gave me more and my tithe grew and its like the More i give the more i'll receive.

  4. Bp Renato,Very strong!I had not heard of J. D. Rockefeller's tithing until recently at Church. It's interesting though how his mother understood and taught him this principle. And now, the Rockefeller legacy lives on to this very day – which also brings to mind all that the Rockefeller Center offers in Manhattan!I do believe the more one gives in tithing and offerings, the more one receives from the Lord Jesus.Your last two (2) sentences though, Bp Renato, really caught my attention. Obrigada!LillyEV

  5. If only we can believe and improve on it.

  6. Bp Rockefeller had a very wise mother who was aware of the power of tithing. The above piece is very powerful and indeed a spiritual eye opener to all.

My Mother have always instructed me to Tithe, but during my early days,I was doing my own thing..How ever I went through a some harsh times, back in 1999, so It was early the next yr (2000)that I made my vows to God that, I will always, always give a tenth of all that comes into my hands (10%) of my income, and of all my increase..profits gifts presents,.

John D..the billionaire had a great-loving mother who knew about the power of the Tithes,,

My name is John L-McIntosh,I just hope and pray that the Good lord will shed his light and mercies upon me to-become the next Billionaire..Nothing will give me more joy than to Give the tithes and offering, and more to the work of my dear Father in Heaven,,Amen

  8. The tithe is such a powerful weapon given to us by the Lord but more importantly, its the one way the Lord taught us to honor Jesus and to declare that He is alive today in our lives. You have to love the Lord’s ways. Opposite of the world.

The Holy Communion declares Jesus’ death, and if received correctly, provides us health and drives out any disease from our bodies and can keep us from dying. The tithe, brought out of the correct motivation which is to honor Jesus, will make you financially wealthy at some point. But we don’t go after money, we go after honoring Jesus with the tithe as an expression of gratitude for all He’s done for us and we declare He is our source for everything. Praise the Lord.
