I WAS A MANIPULATOR in my own marriage. Whenever Cristiane upset me, I’d deny her any kind of affection. I’d keep silent, I’d avoid eye contact, I wouldn’t touch her, and I’d try living my life as if I didn’t need her. That was the silent treatment.
My goal was to make her eat humble pie, beg for forgiveness, and work hard to earn my love back. (Even the thought of it hurts…)
But I wasn’t fully aware that I was manipulating her. My relationship abilities were severely deficient and I didn’t know it.
This is why love has to go to school. If we don’t learn to love and receive love, we’ll continue hurting and being hurt.
Loving is not enough. You have to know how to love.
We all have learned some wrong way of loving and receiving love. This is why we all need to go through a love reeducation. Whether you’re a youth who isn’t yet even thinking about dating, or a mature person who’s been married for more than 50 years, you’ll be surprised by what intelligent love can teach you and how happy you’ll become if you put it into practice.
