If only people had the same strength, disposition, ability to overcome and will to seek the Holy Spirit as they have to seek the things of this world, such as: prosperity, family union, successful love life, perfect health, etc.
Do you remember Peter? The Lord Jesus found him discouraged and upset because he failed at fishing, so he was washing his nets after giving up for the day.
However, when Jesus finished preaching from his boat, He told him to set the nets again, and Peter, right away, drew strength from weakness, overcame the discouragement and went to battle. He overcame at that moment and caught a great number of fish.
When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. Luke 5.4-6
However, three and a half years after this experience and many other experiences, the Lord Jesus had to warn Peter and two other apostles, because they did not show the same will as they did when they wanted an answer for their financial problems when it came to establishing a communion with God, growing in intimacy with Him, forming a solid faith, which would allow them to be recognized as children of God, and confirm their possession with the Holy Spirit.
For this reason, it’s understandable why it was easy for Peter to deny the Lord Jesus, and why many people do the same nowadays!
If only he had the same thirst for the Holy Spirit that he had manifested for prosperity!
Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Matthew 26.40-44
May God bless you abundantly!
