But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. Romans 8.9
The apostle Paul is insightful in his statements because many Christians were not sincere in their conversion.
Though some professed the faith, they still surrendered to the pleasures of the flesh and were inclined to the emotions of the heart. This is what happens with many Christians who know the Word of Truth. They attend church for years but aren’t to place their lives in the center of God’s will.
They live in a spiritual lukewarmness and, therefore, cannot receive the Holy Spirit. They are the so-called children of the flesh, who always resist the Direction of the Spirit.
They are always involved in conflicts and are constantly murmuring or complaining about the church, the pastor and other people.
Also, they are never satisfied with anything and always find a reason to criticize. Some try to deceive others and themselves by saying they are filled with the Holy Spirit, but their actions reveal their true nature (John 8.47).
