We don’t choose to come into the world, but we have the power to choose where we’ll spend eternity.

…because you came out of Egypt in that month. No one is to appear before Me empty-handed. Exodus 23.15 (HCSB)

…for in it you came out of Egypt; none shall appear before Me emptyExodus 23.15 (NKJV)

…No one is to appear before Me empty-handed. Exodus 23.15 (NIV)

These three sacred texts are from different versions of the Bible, yet all have the same message. God’s command catches our attention: no one should appear before Him empty-handed.

Why does the Almighty God command those who come before His Altar (which represents Him) to have a material offering in hand, when He is Spirit?

It’s easy to explain, but hard to understand…

It’s hard because it requires intelligent faith, a faith that uses reason.

Those who were an offering presented to God in the past, would represent His Offering to the world (John 3.16). His Holy Offering to the world was His Only way to reach humanity.

After the original sin, man became unclean and unrighteous. How would the Holy of Holies communicate with His filthiest creation? Impossible. Only through the Offering of His Holy Son Jesus Christ did it become possible to build A path for the unclean to come before the Holy of Holies.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel commands everyone to have an offering in their hands when they come before Him, so there is awareness that the offering symbolizes the Offering (Jesus Christ) that He, the Almighty God, gave to the World.

Since His Offering was Perfect in our favor, how could He accept us to come before Him empty-handed?

Whenever we invoke Him in prayer, we embrace in our heart and confess with our lips the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, represented by the offering in our hands.

Empty hands represent a heart that is empty of the Lord Jesus Christ.
