Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out. Acts 1.18
What happened to Judas Iscariot is sad and tragic. He was among the twelve disciples, walked with the Lord Jesus, witnessed miracles, listened to His teachings, but this was not enough, his heart remained apart from the Savior. This shows that attending or occupying a position in the church, listening to the Word of God, and even fulfilling certain rituals does not mean you have good intentions and your life is truly surrendered to the Lord Jesus.
Greed abided within Judas, which led him to commit shameful and sinful deeds, thus separating him from the body of Christ.
With the money he received for giving the Master to the enemies, he purchased a field, where he committed suicide and later became a graveyard. A dishonest achievement, at the expense of the life of the Lord.
The money he acquired unjustly led him to perdition and we read his tragic end in this verse. According to historians, the rope he used to hang himself snapped or the branch of the tree broke, his body crashed onto the cliff and his entrails gushed out. This means that God knows what is in our innermost being and one day everything will come to the surface.
Everyone has desires; the question is what are they willing to do to achieve them.
When malice, evil intentions, lies and selfishness exist in the heart, surely God will not be part of his conquests.
God is righteous and everything that is connected to unrighteousness, or sin, comes from the devil.
So, if a person is willing to lie, deceive, bribe, betray, or walk over others to achieve what he desires, his end cannot be different from Judas; he will be dead to God because of his crimes and sins.
Everything that is acquired illicitly is a wage of iniquity, something that the person cannot even enjoy since it comes from sin and stains the conscience.
We see the results of sin when it is not rejected and fought, but when it is being nourished, it is free to produce its evil fruit.
To take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. Acts 1.25
The person decides to turn away from the path of Truth. Satan found an affinity with evil in Judas, his intentions were not pure and true; therefore there was no place for repentance.
Dear reader, it is also your decision to act correctly and according to the Word. If your actions, thoughts or feelings have been impure, decide today to follow Righteousness, get rid of the wages of iniquity and receive the Reward for Salvation.
Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward. 2 John 1.8
